The woodcocks were going ballistic at Sandy Hook this evening. This was my first attempt to photograph these birds after dark. I'd never gotten a good look at one before. Remarkable creatures. The sounds they make during their courtship aerobatics strike me as sounding "digital". It makes me wonder what manner of information could be encoded in these calls. This fellow was doing what is referred to as "peenting", a sound halfway between a Toad & a Katydid. So cool to watch...
